Marlin Steel was recently featured in an article by the National Association of Manufacturers for the company’s recent contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 virus.
In a last minute challenge on a Friday night, Marlin Steel’s engineering team designed and manufactured custom test tube racks for a large healthcare provider - all in one weekend. The client needed the emergency test tubes to expedite testing, which will help to contain the virus and save lives.
A Race Against Time
Marlin Steel’s engineering team had a long week and was ready for the weekend when they received an urgent order at 6:15 p.m on Friday. A client needed a large set of test tube racks for coronavirus testing - and they needed them by Monday! Marlin Steel’s team had never designed test tube racks before and the weekend was so close, but the company quickly went to work to do their part in fighting COVID-19.
A Dedicated Team
Despite just ending an exhausting week where employees had already worked between 40 to 60 hours, the engineering team didn’t stop. A group volunteered to work all through the weekend to see the job completed.
Although many had begun at 6:00 a.m. that morning, the volunteers worked until 10:30 p.m. that Friday night and resumed again bright and early at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday. They continued until the test tube racks were completed at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday - a mere 43 hours after Marlin Steel had received the request!
The test tube racks were ready to be shipped 1,100 miles away to the client’s facility, who received them by 8:00 a.m. Monday morning all ready to be prepared for COVID-19 testing. To help other organizations combat COVID-19, such as hospitals and COVID-19 testing kit manufacturers, Marlin Steel has been building more and more stainless steel test tube racks.
The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has asked authorities to deem manufacturing facilities “Essential businesses” so that companies like Marlin Steel can continue to help stop the spread COVID-19.
“Manufacturers in America are mobilizing to help our nation overcome this historic crisis,” NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons was quoted in the article. “America’s creators will respond to this challenge, as we have throughout history. We’re in this together as we fight to keep our country healthy and strong.”
