Marlin Steel specializes in manufacturing metal forms including stainless steel parts, S-hooks, racks, washing baskets, and sheet metal material handling containers. Since our earliest days in manufacturing, we have chosen to invest in our team and equipment to provide the capabilities and services our customers need.
Now, we are pleased to announce the addition of a new wire welding system to our collection of state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. The Schlatter POSIWELD CNC jig welding system, manufactured by Swiss welding, wire production, and weaving machine manufacturer Schlatter, is an automated resistance welder capable of manufacturing products and components made from wire.
We are excited to be working with the latest wire welding technology and about the boost in efficiency this means for our customers. Keep reading to learn more about the Schlatter POSIWELD system, its benefits, and its applications.
What Is the Schlatter POSIWELD CNC Jig Welding System?
The automated Schlatter POSIWELD CNC jig welding system can handle small to medium volumes of wire products. It is a cost-efficient piece of equipment used to weld 2D and 3D wire components. The machine features a special turntable that holds two jigs. An operator can rotate the turntable so that as one workpiece is being welded in its jig, the other can be unloaded and a new one inserted. This maintains a continuous flow of workpieces in and out of the machine.
It includes multiple pairs of resistance welding electrodes, driven by servo motors for quick yet accurate and precise welds. The space below the workpieces remains open so the electrodes can access it from above and below to create the welds.
Because it is a CNC system, it can be pre-programmed with all of the steps to make a product; however, it also includes a hand-held pendant for programming the machine as it works, or making adjustments on the fly.
Key Benefits of the Schlatter POSIWELD for Wire Welding & Fabrication
Automated welding holds many benefits for manufacturing personnel and customers, such as:- Increased Production Efficiency. The turntable allows a single operator to unload and reload a workpiece on one side while a second piece is being welded on the other side for a continuous feed in and out of the machine. A handheld pendant device can be used to program the machine as it works on the first piece, saving more time. Servo motors move the electrodes and arm at a consistent speed for a reduction in downtime during or between pieces.
- Medium frequency welding. The system is 1/30th the length of conventional AC welders, resulting in a shorter upset time and fewer burrs. This greatly reduces the risk of injury on burrs on the welds.
- Enhanced Versatility & Flexibility. The Schlatter POSIWELD system can be used to weld both flat 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional items. It can weld a range of materials including bright basic, galvanized, stainless steel, and reinforcement wire for a variety of products, parts, and components.
- Improved Quality & Precision. Because it is programmable on the fly or with CNC codes and uses automated electrodes, the welder repeats the same motions over and over. Workpieces are held securely in jigs for proper positioning. These features mean welds are highly repeatable and finished items have minimal variation in weld quality or position.
Applications of the Schlatter POSIWELD CNC Jig Welding System
This system can be used to manufacture small to medium-sized batches of welded wire products, with the advantage of faster cycle times. Some examples include:
- Wire and mesh baskets
- Point-of-purchase (POP) displays
- Wheeled carts
- Fan guards
- Appliance components
- And more
